The Radio Equipment Directive applies to devices with radio technology (e.g. WLAN devices, mobile routers) that are sold in the EU.
Any product covered by the RED Directive must be RED compliant in order to bear the CE marking.
Our Ewon Cosy, Ewon Flexy and Ewon Netbiter devices contain Wi-Fi or cellular modems and are therefore covered by this directive.
From August 1, 2025, new cybersecurity requirements (EN18031) will come into force in accordance with the RED Directive.
These regulations aim to improve the cybersecurity of wireless devices sold in the EU, protect user data and privacy and prevent damage to network functionality.
Although the Ewon Cosy, Ewon Flexy and Ewon Netbiter devices are already RED compliant, they must meet these new requirements to remain compliant after August 1, 2025.
We have optimized the firmware of these devices to further increase safety and ensure full compliance.

The path to conformity
In order to maintain the CE certification of our Ewon devices, the updated RED requirements must be met.
This results in
- New firmware versions for Ewon Cosy and Flexy devices will be released
- The devices will be delivered with this new firmware version
- These new firmware versions should be available by the end of July 2025 at the latest

The schedule
- Determine firmware version for new devices
As soon as the new firmware is released, it will be used in the production of Ewon Cosy and Ewon Flexy devices.
To determine whether a device has been delivered with the new firmware, simply check the serial number.
Our serial number format "YYWW-SSSS-PP" stands for:
- YY: Year of production
- WW: Production week
- SSSS: Consecutive production sequence
- PP: Product type
The serial number of the first Cosy+ manufactured with the new firmware 23.00 is 2528-0001-25.
From this serial number onwards, all Cosy+ devices are produced and delivered with the new firmware.
For Ewon Flexy, the serial number of the first device produced with a new firmware 15.0 is 2531-0001-PP (where PP "20" stands for Flexy 10x, "21" for Flexy 20x and "24" for Flexy 205).
- Stocks
For devices that are already in stock, an insert is added explaining that the firmware must be updated before use.
This supplement also contains further conformity requirements and will be added to all future deliveries as standard.
It contains information on firmware updates during commissioning and RED-compliant use:
- Secure physical access to the Ewon device
- Restrict LAN connections to authorized users
- Apply Talk2m access rights to enforce the principle of least privilege
