We are an owner-managed, medium-sized group of companies based in the beautiful Rheingau region, west of Wiesbaden.
Competent, personal advice from person to person and sustainable cooperation with our business partners are the cornerstones of our continuous growth. We are certified according to DIN ISO 9001.

Since 1978 a reliable supplier of industrially robust and high-quality devices for the visualization, communication and processing of data in the fields of machine, plant and building automation and renewable energies.

Development and manufacture of encoders, motor feedback and complete measuring systems for use in a wide range of series applications in machine and plant engineering. Extensive standard program with numerous options as well as efficient development of customer-specific solutions.
VISUALYS - We Create Data Awareness
VISUALYS focuses on the development, integration and consulting of software relating to Industry 4.0, SmartData and IIoT for machine and plant manufacturers and operators.
The core competence lies in data VISUALizationand data ANALYSIS.
2024:
Wachendorff Prozesstechnik launches the Wachendorff Electronics brand for the distribution of industrial electronics in the EU. www. wachendorff-electronics.de
2022:
Wachendorff Automation launches a world first: the incremental encoder WDGN, which can be configured by the user via app (via NFC).
2020:
Box PCs are added to the Wachendorff Prozesstechnik product portfolio in the IPC sector (March).
Also in March, Wachendorff Automation launches the WDGR series, a family of redundant incremental encoders with diverse sensors (optical and magnetic). In combination with corresponding controllers or speed monitors, for example, high performance levels can be achieved cost-effectively.
2019:
VISUALYS, a Wachendorff corporate start-up, becomes active in September 2019. The young company's core competencies lie in data VISUALizationand data ANALYSISin the IIoT and Industry 4.0 environment.
In August 2019, the foundation stone was laid for a new 600 m² warehouse. The Group purchases an adjacent 8,500 sqm plot of land to ensure future expansion.
On July 25, we have to say goodbye to our company founder. Rolf Wachendorff dies at the age of 94.
Wachendorff Automation launches a world first: the "Universal Industrial EtherNet encoder"! The required protocol can be uploaded just-in-time; PROFINET and EtherCAT are available at the start (February).
2018:
Wachendorff celebrates its 40th anniversary.
Wachendorff Prozesstechnik cooperates with selected solution providers to implement Industry 4.0 projects for customers.
Numerous new devices with OPC UA and MQTT interfaces, including IIoT Gateways, are integrated into the product portfolio.
2017:
The new generation of WDGA absolute encoders from Wachendorff Automation are equipped with the newly developed QuattroMag® technology in the singleturn range.
Now in the Wachendorff Automation production and delivery program: Encoders with Industrial Ethernet interfaces, initially PROFINET and EtherCAT, with more to follow.
Wachendorff Automation is named "Innovator of the Year 2017" for its products and services by business magazine brand eins Wissen and statistics portal Statista in the category "Automation & measurement technology, small and medium-sized companies up to 250 employees".
2016:
Wachendorff Prozesstechnik expands its product portfolio to include Industrial Ethernet components with a significantly extended range of functions, including managed switches, and thus offers solutions for the convergence of OT and IT.
Industrial-robust panel PCs are now also an important part of the product range.
2015:
In order to be closer to customers in the Asian market, Wachendorff Automation (Suzhou) Co, Ltd. is founded in China.
2014:
With the programmable fieldbus node PIO, Wachendorff Prozesstechnik adds a controller to its product range for the first time.
Wachendorff Automation integrates the I/O technology into an absolute encoder while retaining the compact installation space. The world innovation WDGA-IO enables machine and plant manufacturers to significantly minimize the installation/wiring effort.
The Wachendorff Elektronik division is sold to the TOPCON POSITIONING GROUP.
On June 27, 2014, Germany's most successful think tanks received the coveted Top100 Innovator award:
Wachendorff Automation is once again one of them.
2012:
In addition to its own field sales force, Wachendorff Prozesstechnik establishes further competent contacts for on-site customer support: technical distributors.
2011:
Only creative companies with vision and a sense for the new make it into the ranks of the 100 most innovative medium-sized companies. Wachendorff Automation is one of them. On June 30, 2011, patron Lothar Späth presents the "Top 100" seal of approval.
The nomination for the "Hessen Champion 2011", the growth and innovation award of the Hessian Ministry of Economics and the Association of Hessian Business Associations, makes Wachendorff Automation proud.
2010:
To actively meet the demand for absolute encoders and measuring systems on the American continent, Wachendorff Automation USA, Inc. is founded with headquarters in Chicago.
2009:
Wachendorff Automation employees develop and successfully introduce a new manufacturing or assembly philosophy: LeanQ.
2008:
Wachendorff Automation expands its product range to include absolute rotary encoders with patented EnDra® multiturn technology. These products make multiturn absolute encoders more robust, smaller and wear-free.
2007:
Wachendorff is selected as an innovative and successful company to design a day as part of the "365 Landmarks in the Land of Ideas" program.
Wachendorff Prozesstechnik establishes a Germany-wide network of so-called system integrators who implement and commission system solutions with Wachendorff devices.
2006:
Wachendorff is awarded the "Entrepreneur Prize for Innovative SMEs" by the Raiffeisen and Volksbanken as the overall winner for Germany.
2005:
Following a reorganization, the Wachendorff Group consists of three companies:
- Wachendorff Automation for the development and manufacture of encoders and systems.
- Wachendorff Prozesstechnik as a supplier of automation components for machine and plant construction.
- Wachendorff Elektronik for the manufacture of operating devices, primarily for mobile machinery (this division was sold in 2014).
2004:
Wachendorff documents its high standards of quality management and environmental protection with certification to DIN EN ISO 9001:2000 and DIN EN ISO 14001:2005.
1995:
A further product group is created in response to a customer requirement: development and manufacture of operating devices for mobile machinery.
1990:
Wachendorff moves into the building at Industriestrasse 7 in Geisenheim, which is completely taken over in 2007.
1989:
Start of development and production of incremental optical rotary encoders.
1985:
Sons Dr. Peter and Robert Wachendorff join the family business.
17.11.1978:
Rolf Wachendorff founds Wachendorff Prozesstechnik and starts importing electronic devices for industrial use.
